Your digital dive portal at Bare Dykk
Safe Dive gathers everything you need before, during and after the dive – profile, certifications, signing, dive plan and conditions – in one secure place. Here we explain what the system is and how to use it.
One system for the whole diving experience
Safe Dive is Bare Dykk's HSE and dive-log system. It replaces paper forms and stray ring binders with a single digital space you manage yourself.
Instead of filling in the same details all over again for every visit, you register your profile, your certifications and your emergency contact once. The next time you are diving with us, everything is ready – you plan the dive, check the conditions and sign whatever needs signing, straight from your phone.
For you as a diver, that means less paperwork on the jetty and a better overview of your own diving. For us at the centre, it means that safety is documented and that we know everyone in the water is cleared for it.
The guide takes you step by step
The first time you log in, you are met by ‘Your route to your first dive’ – a guide that shows exactly what remains before you are ready. You can take the steps in whatever order suits you.
Create an account and request access
If you have an account in the online shop, log in to My account and request access from there. If you do not have an account yet, you can create one in the same place. The centre approves your access as a diver – then you open the portal at baredykk.no/divesafe.
Fill in your profile
Name, date of birth and contact details. This is done only once, and confirmed once a year.
Add an emergency contact
At least one next of kin. This is mandatory before you can sign up for a dive – for good reason.
Register your certifications
Choose the organisation and the certification from the list, and upload a photo or PDF of the card. The centre approves it.
Complete any required courses
Some sites require short courses – the coral code of conduct, for example – with a small quiz at the end.
Confirm your email address and sign
You receive a one-time code by email and sign the declaration of responsibility digitally. Then you are cleared.
Sign up for a dive
Once you are cleared, you can sign up and plan your dive.
No dead ends. If something is blocked, the guide tells you why and links straight to what you need to sort out. You can always see how many steps you are from your first dive.
What you can do in Safe Dive
Everything is gathered in one app you can install on your phone. Here are the things that matter most to you as a diver.
Profile and emergency contact
Your personal details and your next of kin, stored securely and easy to update.
Certifications
Register your cards in the right order and upload a photo or PDF. You can see what each certification qualifies you for.
Courses and signing
Take short courses with a quiz and sign the declaration of responsibility digitally with a one-time code – no paperwork.
Conditions
Tides, weather and sea temperature on the same timeline. Choose your planned time window and see the conditions for exactly that period.
My dive
Plan maximum depth, bottom time, total dive time and expected SMB. Enter your gas and see the depth limit (MOD).
Dive report
Write a report after the dive and attach photos. Your own logbook, always available.
My fills
An overview of the gas fills the centre has carried out for you – gas type and quantity, gathered in one place.
Status board at the centre
On the big screen at the centre, everyone can see what is going on and who is in the water while diving is under way.
Emergency screen
A pre-loaded emergency screen that works even without mobile coverage out on the water.
Good to know
A few practical details about using Safe Dive day to day.
Install it as an app
Open baredykk.no/divesafe in the browser on your phone and choose ‘Add to Home Screen’. You then get the Bare Dykk icon and an app that also takes you to the online shop.
Norwegian or English
Switch language whenever you like. The whole portal is available in both languages, with a light and a dark theme.
Your data is safe
Sensitive details such as next of kin and telephone numbers are stored in encrypted form. You can see and manage your own data. See How your information is secured for what that means in practice.
We will help you get started
Struggling to upload a certification, or stuck somewhere? Get in touch – we can enter it and approve it on your behalf.
How your information is secured
‘Stored securely’ and ‘digital signing’ are easy to write and hard to verify. What follows is what is actually done, concrete enough that you can judge it yourself – or have someone who knows the field judge it for you.
Encryption of personal data
Emergency contact, telephone number and similar fields are encrypted with XChaCha20-Poly1305, an authenticated encryption algorithm (AEAD) which means that changes to stored data are detected and not simply accepted in silence. The encryption key sits in a file outside the web server's document root, so that it cannot be fetched through the browser should something else fail.
What a signature consists of
We do not just store the fact that you signed. We store a SHA-256 fingerprint of the exact text you were shown – with name, date and dive site filled in – so that it can later be proved exactly which wording you accepted. Stored alongside it are the time to microsecond precision, which login method was used, and which language the document was displayed in.
Including what you did not tick
Every tick box is stored, both the ones you ticked and the ones you left blank. That is a deliberate distinction: without it, nobody can show afterwards that an optional consent was deliberately left blank, rather than simply missing.
Nothing is overwritten
Signatures cannot be changed afterwards – there is no function for it in the system. If something has to be corrected, it is done as a new signature against a new version of the document, and both remain. The history is therefore complete, not edited.
Emergency contact without coverage
Before a trip, the dive leader can prepare an offline package. The emergency contact details in it are sealed with a key derived from the dive leader's four-digit emergency PIN. The key is stored nowhere – not in the app, not in the package, not on the server – it is computed from the PIN when it is needed and deleted straight away. The package stops working after 72 hours at most.
What the PIN does not solve
A four-digit code has 10,000 possibilities. If you lose your phone unlocked to someone willing to work through them systematically, the code is not effective protection – it removes the easy ‘open the file and read it’ access, not a targeted attacker. It is a deliberate trade-off between emergency information being quickly available at sea and it not lying around in the open. We would rather say so than not.
Frequently asked questions
Short answers to what divers ask us.
Do I have to create an account, or can I use the one I have in the online shop?
If you already have an account in our online shop, you can use it. Log in to My account and request access as a diver from there. The centre approves it, and you are up and running – without creating anything new.
Why do I have to add an emergency contact before I can dive?
An emergency contact is an HSE requirement. Should anything happen, we have to be able to reach your next of kin quickly. That is why it is mandatory before you sign up for a dive.
My certification is only a PDF – is that all right?
Yes. You can upload either a photo or a PDF of the certification. If the upload still fails, send us the file and we will enter it and approve it for you.
Do the certifications in the system expire?
No. Diving certifications do not expire, so the system does not ask you for an expiry date. You register the organisation, the certification and the date of issue – that is all.
What is ‘signing the declaration of responsibility’?
Before you dive, you confirm that you have read and understood the declaration of responsibility. You receive a one-time code by email, type your name and sign. This is an electronic signature, not a BankID signature – the difference lies in how much is documented around it, and there we go a long way: we store a SHA-256 fingerprint of the exact text you were shown, every tick box you ticked and left blank, the time to microsecond precision, and how you were logged in. See ‘How your information is secured’ for the details.
Does the app work without mobile coverage?
The emergency screen works without coverage, but it has to be prepared while you still have a connection – it does not fetch anything new once you are out there. Before a trip, the dive leader prepares an offline package with what is needed in an emergency; it lasts 72 hours at most and then has to be renewed. Ordinary functions – signing up, uploading, signing – need a connection, as anywhere else online. See How your information is secured for how emergency contact data is protected in the package.
Ready to get started? Open Safe Dive and follow the guide. If you are stuck, or cannot get a certification uploaded, get in touch with us at the centre – you will find the contact details on the contact page.
